COURTROOM ATTIRE

All persons who wish to conduct business in the Court or to attend hearings in the courtrooms must be dressed in clothing suitable for a business environment and not be in possession of prohibited items, INCLUDING persons who are applying for or picking up marriage licenses.

1. For the protection of the public, all persons entering any Judicial Branch facility must pass through the Metal Detector. If the Detector alerts, that person will be subject to a search. Refusal to submit to the search will result in denial of entry.
2. All packages, briefcases, bags, purses, pocketbooks, or other items carried by a person must be offered for inspection if such person wishes to enter the facility.
3. Illegal weapons or other prohibited items/contraband discovered in the course of search procedures will be seized and the proper authorities shall be notified.

Unacceptable Court attire includes:

• Bathing suits (even if covered by a “beach wrap” or other beachwear)
• Halter tops
• Tank tops
• Tube tops
• Muscle shirts
• Lingerie, pajamas
• Yoga pants/skin-tight clothing
• Clothing that exposes the midriff or underwear
• Strapless or sleeveless tops (shirts or blouses)
• Short pants, cut-offs
• Old, dirty or torn Blue Jeans.
• Short skirts/dresses that do not extend at lease to the middle of the thigh while sitting.
• Clothing with revealing or excessively low-cut neckline
• Clothing with revealing or excessively high-cut skirts
• Baggy Pants that fall below the hips.
• See-through garments
• Clothing that depicts or promotes violence, profanity, illegal drug use, offensive/obscene/sexual acts, suggestive slogans/caricatures or profanity.
• Flip-flops
• Slippers (even if worn with socks)
• Bare feet - SHOES MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES
• Any clothing which may be deemed inappropriate for a business environment.
• Hats (unless wearing a specific head covering for religious reasons).
• Tinted or dark colored glasses/sunglasses should not be worn in the Courthouse.
• Males – All shirts must be tucked inside of pants (with the exception of Guayaberas (Four Pocket Shirts) or “square-bottom” shirts with side vents.

Prohibited Items

• Chewing gum, candy, tobacco, food or drink
• Electronic Devices - Cell Phones, smart watches, laptops, tablets, cameras, sound recording devices, Bluetooth devices, etc.
• Weapons – No weapons of any type are allowed in any Judicial Branch facility. The following items will be confiscated.
• Any Firearms – including starter pistols, BB guns and flare pistols.
• Knives, Razors, box cutters and “Exacto” type tools.
• Stun guns, tasers, pepper sprays, chemical mace or tear gas weapons.
• All gun-shaped lighter, toys, toy guns, pellet/air guns and replica guns.
• Handcuffs and handcuff keys, except those possessed by sworn law enforcement officers on duty.
• All scissors with a length in excess of three inches.
• All large tools (screw drivers, pliers, wrenches, hammers, etc.)
• Ice picks, darts, martial arts devices.
• Letter openers with sharp points or exposed sharp edges.
• Heavy-duty wire gauge chains, Brass Knuckles, Black jacks, etc.
• Laser pointers
• Needles/syringes, except those possessed by persons with a doctor’s order or prescription documenting the medical need for medication administered by needles or syringes.
• All flammable liquids, explosive devices, etc.
